Golf in East Lothian

East Lothian offers excellent seaside golf, with two very well known golf courses in Gullane and Muirfield, but Dunbar and Longniddry Golf Clubs are not to be overlooked. All four courses sit within a short drive of each other and less than 20 miles from Edinburgh, perfect for an Edinburgh-based golf break!

Stay in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, choosing from over 200 hotels within 2 miles of the city centre from budget to luxury as one would find in any world-class city.

For first-time visitors to the Scottish capital, the Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile, Scottish Parliament, Scotch Whisky Experience tour and tasting are all an absolute must on the to-do list on your East Lothian golf break. For return visitors, Edinburgh never fails to please with new experiences - from ghoulish ghost tours, the newly developed trendy urban docks/shopping/residential area of Leith, the free National Galleries, and truly fine dining experiences at Tom Kitchin's top restaurant or Michelin- starred 21212.

Day 1

Begin your East Lothian trip with grandeur at the Muirfield Golf Course, home of The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, just 20 miles from Edinburgh outside North Berwick. The Honourable Company wrote the original 13 Rules of Golf and the course is the only to have hosted the Open the Amateur, the Mid Amateur, the Ryder Cup, the Walker Cup and the Curtis Cup. Visitor Days are Tuesdays and Thursdays, and can be booked online on the Muirfield website.

Day 2

The Dunbar Golf Club course is situated on the estuary of the Firth of Forth, and affords absolutely breathtaking views and the quality layout of a Championship links. This is a perfect second day golf location again just 20 miles from Edinburgh.

Day 3

Why not combine a morning at Dunbar with an afternoon at Longniddry Golf Course, or dedicate a full day just to Longniddry, located on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, just 18 miles east of Edinburgh. The course is a combination of woodland and links and dry sandy soil and though the course is designed to reward the strategic golfer, all golfers benefit from stunning shore views.

Day 4

Gullane Golf Club has been called one of the most beautiful spots in the world and as a host to a significant amount of international championships and Opens; Gullane is an excellent way to end your East Lothian golf break. Also worth a visit is the Heritage of Golf museum located on site, owned privately by one of the Club's Honorary Members.

For a golf break in East Lothian, consider getting the Golf East Lothian passport, which offers 15% reduced price during high season and 30% off in low season and allows access to twelve East Lothian golf courses for one round of golf on courses in 5 consecutive days.
